eBay has expanded its Authenticity Guarantee programme to include collectible coins, which it says will provide buyers and sellers with an additional layer of security for high-value numismatic transactions. The service, available in the United States, now covers eligible graded US and world coins in addition to US coins priced at $500 or more.

Under the programme, eligible coins are sent to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) for inspection before being forwarded to the buyer. Authenticators verify the coin's authenticity, condition and consistency with the listing description. Authenticated items receive a tamper-evident seal and QR code, allowing collectors to access details of the authentication process.

The move represents the latest expansion of eBay's Authenticity Guarantee ecosystem, which was first introduced for trading cards in 2022. It follows the introduction of standardised condition guidelines for collectible coins earlier this year, aimed at improving transparency for buyers.
