Registration Now Open for The Coin Conference 2026

Registration is now open for The Coin Conference 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from 28-30 September.

The Coin Conference is the only event to focus on circulating coins as part of treasury and central bank cash and payment strategies. This includes design, security and cost-effective production, as well as handling, distribution and management in circulation.

The Crowne Plaza Budapest is the chosen venue for the event, with delegates now also able to book their stay and receive the special conference rate via the link on the website.

Programme coming soon

The main programme for The Coin Conference is currently being finalised and is set to be released soon. In the meantime, the two pre-conference workshops have now been announced.

The first workshop, titled ‘Designing Optimal Cash Structure: Reasons, Rules and Recommendations for Better Decisions’ will be limited to national authorities (central banks and issuing authorities) only. It will explore the key concerns decision makers encounter when launching a new coin, a new banknote, or redesigning the denomination mix – and it will be led by Dieter Merkle, of ANDRITZ Schuler Pressen / ICA, supported by coin experts of the IMD-TC and ICA members.

Workshop outcomes will contribute to the development of a set of easy-to-understand future guidelines for designing an optimal cash structure for the benefit of central bank decision makers at all management levels.

The second workshop is titled ‘Commemorative Coins and the International Market’. It is open to all attendees – although it is aimed at central banks, issuing authorities, and mints, to provide ideas and inspiration on how to benefit from the huge potential of commemorative coins whilst avoiding or minimising the drawbacks.

In this workshop, Ursula Kampmann – well-known numismatist, journalist and founder of CoinsWeekly – will present and discuss some of these challenges and solutions and weigh the advantages of direct sales against the benefits of using agents or trading partners.

In addition to the workshops and main conference programme, the event will also play host to several social events including, but not limited to, a gala dinner and the much anticipated Coin Conference football match sponsored by M.One. The International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) will also host a Members’ Discussion Meeting and its 2026 Excellence in Currency Coin Awards, with the nomination period for the latter set to open in May.

A post-conference tour of local production facilities will also take place, subject to availability. Further information about the tour, in addition to a visit to the Central Bank of Hungary’s Money Museum, will be released closer to the conference date.
