The 22nd iteration of the World Money Fair (WMF) Technical Forum took place on 28 January, with this year's event offering 14 specialist presentations and providing a comprehensive overview of current innovations in the coin industry. In this month’s issue of Coin & Mint News™, we review the first five papers from the 2026 Technical Forum.

Registration is now open for The Coin Conference 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from 28-30 September. The main programme for the event is currently being finalised and is set to be released soon. In the meantime, the two pre-conference workshops have now been announced.

The recent World Money Fair, held annually in Berlin at the end of January and beginning of February, is typically titled ‘the largest coin fair in the world’. This year’s iteration welcomed 320 exhibitors to the three day event, including mints and national banks from around 50 countries.

The Beijing International Coin Exposition has been held since 1995, with 29 editions of the event resulting in a cumulative attendance of one million visits. The most recent Coin Expo was held at the China National Convention Center from 31 October to 2 November 2025.

The Coin of the Year (COTY) Awards have been held every year since 1984, with a panel of judges nominating ten coins in each of the ten award categories. The winners of the most recent edition of the annual COTY Awards were announced at the 2025 World’s Fair of Money®, held in Oklahoma City mid-August.

The World Money Fair is the world’s largest coin fair. This year’s event, held 30 January to 1 February, attracted more numismatics enthusiasts than ever before – with over 13,600 attendees and more than 300 exhibitors from 50 countries present. WMF Director, Goetz-Ulf-Jungmichel, commented that the event ‘shows that our industry is not only preserving history, but actively shaping the future’.
