Cash Remains Key Whilst Digital Payments Expand
The most recent annual reports from the South African Reserve Bank, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the National Bank of Kazakhstan highlight commitments to maintaining resilient cash ecosystems while advancing digital payment infrastructure and financial innovation.
Whilst South Africa's Mint reported increased revenues, largely driven by strong bullion sales and increased international demand, Kyrgyzstan expanded its precious metals investment offerings while exploring digital payments and AI applications, and Kazakhstan focused on technical innovations for currency.
South African Reserve Bank (SARB)
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) presented its vision for the country's financial system in the 2025-26 Annual Report. The SARB is taking a balanced approach. It recognises that South Africa's diverse economy needs both modern digital infrastructure and a resilient cash ecosystem to support financial inclusion, economic stability, and public confidence.
